Mealime only serves its own recipes — Pantree serves yours
Mealime's biggest constraint is one that's fundamental to its design: every recipe in the app comes from Mealime's own curated library. There is no way to add a recipe you found on TikTok, import from a food blog, or save the dish your grandmother taught you. You are cooking from Mealime's menu.
Pantree is the opposite. It's a container for your recipe collection — wherever those recipes come from. TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, AllRecipes, a food blog, a photo of a handwritten card, or typed from memory. Once imported, every recipe lives in one searchable library that connects to your pantry.
If you want to cook the recipes you already love, Pantree is built for that. Mealime assumes you haven't found those recipes yet.
Pantry tracking — a feature Mealime doesn't have
Mealime generates shopping lists based on the meals you select for the week. That's useful. But it has no idea what's already in your fridge or pantry — so it adds every ingredient to the list regardless of whether you already have it.
Pantree tracks your pantry inventory: what you have, how much, and when it expires. When you plan a meal, Pantree removes the items you already have from your shopping list automatically. And when something in your fridge is approaching its expiry date, Pantree surfaces recipes that use it — so it gets cooked before it goes to waste.
For households that care about reducing food waste and not buying duplicates, pantry tracking is the feature that changes how you shop and cook.
Household sharing — Pantree supports it, Mealime doesn't
Mealime is built as a single-person app. There is no family plan, no shared pantry, no way for two people in the same household to coordinate their recipe library or shopping list within the app.
Pantree's Premium plan supports two users sharing a pantry and recipe library. The Family plan supports up to five people — useful for households where more than one person cooks, or where you want a shared shopping list that multiple people can update in real time.
