1. Introduction
Pantree (“we”, “our”, or “us”) operates the Pantree mobile application (“App”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use our App.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. Pantree does not use any advertising SDKs, analytics tracking, or third-party data brokers. We only collect and store information that is necessary to provide the App’s core functionality.
By using Pantree, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. Please also review our Terms of Use, which govern your use of the App.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account Information
When you sign in to Pantree using Google Sign-In (OAuth 2.0), we receive and store:
- Email address — used as your account identifier and for account-related communications
- Display name — shown to household members and within the App
- User ID — a unique identifier provided by Google, used internally to manage your account
We do not store your Google password or access your Google account beyond the basic profile information listed above.
2.2 User-Generated Content
We store content that you create or upload within the App, including:
- Recipes — titles, ingredients, instructions, notes, tags, source URLs, and associated photos
- Photos — recipe images uploaded from your device or captured in-app
- Pantry items — item names, quantities, categories, and custom notes
- Shopping lists — list items, quantities, and checked/unchecked status
- Household information — household name, membership details, and invitation codes
2.3 Recipe Source Data
When you import a recipe by URL, we temporarily fetch the content of the web page you specify. This content is sent to OpenAI’s API for recipe extraction and is not stored beyond the extraction process. The original source URL is saved with your recipe for reference.
When you import a recipe by photo, the image is sent to OpenAI’s API for processing. The photo is stored in your account as part of the recipe.
2.4 Information We Do NOT Collect
Pantree does not collect:
- Location data
- Contacts or address book information
- Browsing history
- Device identifiers or advertising IDs
- Health or biometric data
We do not integrate any analytics SDKs, tracking pixels, advertising networks, or third-party data collection tools.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the App’s features and functionality
- Authenticate your identity and manage your account
- Enable household sharing and collaboration features
- Process recipe imports from URLs and photos using AI
- Send important account-related notifications (e.g., security alerts, Terms updates)
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the App’s core functionality.
4. Data Storage and Security
4.1 Cloud Storage
Your data is stored using Google Firebase services:
- Firebase Authentication — manages your sign-in credentials and session tokens
- Cloud Firestore — stores your recipes, pantry items, shopping lists, and household data
- Cloud Storage for Firebase — stores recipe photos and images
All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Firebase provides industry-standard security measures, including encryption at rest and in transit. For more information, see Google Firebase Privacy and Security.
4.2 Local Storage
The App may cache recipe photos locally on your device for performance. This data is stored within the App’s sandbox and is removed when you uninstall the App.
5. Data Sharing
5.1 Household Members
When you join or create a household, certain information is shared with other household members, including your display name, shared recipes, pantry items, and shopping lists. See Section 6 for details on household sharing.
5.2 Third-Party Services
We share limited data with the following third-party services, solely to provide the App’s functionality:

| OpenAI | Recipe extraction from URLs and photos, AI Chef feature | Web page content (temporary), recipe photos, user prompts |
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party. We do not share data with data brokers or advertising networks.
5.3 No Advertising
Pantree does not display advertisements and does not share any user data with advertising networks or platforms.
6. Household Sharing and Invitations
When you participate in a household, the following applies:
- Your display name is visible to all household members
- Recipes you explicitly share are accessible to all household members
- The household pantry and shopping lists are shared among all members
- Invitation codes are generated by the household owner and can be revoked at any time
- You can leave a household at any time, which will remove your shared recipes from the household

- Account data and user-generated content — retained for as long as your account is active
- Deleted content — removed from our servers within 30 days of deletion
- Account deletion — all associated data is permanently deleted within 30 days of account deletion (see Section 8)
